American, born 1990, lives and works in Zürich, Switzerland
Internationally recognized artist, Clio Newton, combines traditional portraiture with a contemporary sensibility. Her current work focuses on the representation of women from a feminist perspective. Her stunning works on paper are remarkably realistic, informed by bold choices and a contemporary edge. Classically trained, Newton’s works range from intimate oil paintings to larger than life charcoal drawings.
American born Newton studied at Cooper Union in New York City, the Florence Academy of Art and the Zürich University of the Arts. Newton is a two time recipient of the prestigious Elizabeth Greenshields’ Grant Award and her work has been exhibited in New York, London, Munich, Paris and Zürich.
